Newsletter February 2023
This month, I would like to talk to you about a difficulty that many children encounter (many adults too, for that matter), and which often is never properly named. It is a persistent difficulty in modulating one's attention, which, by force, can translate into inattentiveness, difficulty in concentrating, problems resisting distractions, inability to get organized, difficulty in starting and ending tasks, forgetfulness and a tendency to misplace or lose things.
The restlessness associated with all of this means that there is often an imbalance when trying to control one's movements, behaviors and sometimes also emotions. These difficulties are not just in a single area of our lives, but they are found in several: in our daily lives, in our family lives, social settings, academic lives and (later) in our professional lives. This is often felt the most in school, when a child is expected to be quiet for hours in addition to being focused for just as much time.
What I am talking about here is not laziness, nor a moral defect, nor a lack of interest, nor a lack of guidance, nor a lack of stimulation, nor an excuse, nor a lack of physical activity.
There are things you can do to alleviate these difficulties, such as eating regularly and healthily, getting enough hours of sleep, moving, exercising, establishing and maintaining routines, being aware of one's strengths and interests (even if these interest often change quickly), surrounding oneself well and involving those close to us. Also consider consulting a (neuro)psychologist and/or a doctor if necessary.
In addition to all these things, which can have a more or less felt impact, you can try essences. I have divided them into three groups:
The following essences work on lack of desire, lack of control:
- Balancer (Pacific) – for those who feel overwhelmed and unable to cope
- Jacaranda (Australian Bush) – for those who start everything but finish nothing
- Honeysuckle (Deva) – for those who wish to escape from the present
- Wild Rose (Deva) - for those who want to overcome the lack of interest
- Cerato (Deva) – for those who cannot control themselves
- Spinach (Spirit-in-Nature) - for feeling overwhelmed
- Almond (Spirit-in-Nature) - for those who feel like they are burning the candle at both ends
The following essences can help if there is increased sensitivity, temper tantrums, anger, lack of control:
- Wild Potato Bush (Australian Bush) – for those feeling overwhelmed, frustrated
- Mountain Devil (Australian Bush) – for those who need to express rage and anger in a healthier way and learn to manage their negative emotions
- Verbena (Deva) – for those who have strong opinions and do not hear others
- Beech (Deva) – for those who are overly sensitive and only see the negative side of things
- Walnut (Deva) – for those who feel like a small change will turn their whole life upside down
- Impatiens (Deva) – for those who get out of their minds when they don't get what they want when they want it, and are impatient

- Cherry Plum (Deva) – for those who need to overcome obsessive fears
- Star of Bethlehem (Deva) – for those who need to be soothed and calm after a trial or bad news, both mentally and emotionally
- Healthy Anger (Wild Earth) - for feeling and accepting one's natural anger and for expressing anger in a healthy way
The following essences can help with concentration:
- Chestnut Bud (Deva) – for those who, through inattention, do not benefit from life experiences and repeat the same mistakes, or are stuck in repetitive situations or behaviours
- Hornbeam (Deva) – for those who need to overcome weariness, lack of interest, inability to cope with daily tasks
- Clematis (Deva) - for the distracted, inattentive and absent

- White Chestnut (Deva) – for those who have difficulty concentrating, a constantly preoccupied mind, intrusive thoughts that prevent concentration
- Scleranthus (Deva) – for those who hesitate and cannot make up their minds
- Fig (Deva) – brings lucidity, self-control. Develops mental clarity, confidence and memory; allows you to take on the complexity of modern life in a calm and confident way by promoting self-control.

- Bush Fuchsia (Australian Bush) – for those unable to balance logic and rationality with intuition and creativity
