Welcome to the January edition of the Fleurs de Vie Newsletter. First of all I would like to send our best wishes for joy, peace and prosperity to all of you from all of us at Fleurs de Vie.

We are pleased to announce that Ian White has given us permission to reprint the articles on astrology and the Australian Bush Flower Essences which appeared in his own newsletter The Essence from March 2010 to September 2012. We will begin this month with the sign of Capricorn.

The Essence comes out quarterly and is filled with interesting articles, updates and news about the Australian Bush Flower Essences. Click here if you are interested in subscribing to this newsletter in English. You can also subscribe to the French edition of The Essence here.

Astrology and Bush Flower Essences

Capricorn 22rd December-20th January

(reprinted with permission from the June 2012 edition of The Essence.)

CapricornCapricorn Capricorn is one of three Earth signs and a very different energy to the signs on either side, Sagittarius and Aquarius. The symbol is the mountain goat, at home in the tough environment of the high alps, where the view is great but only the strong and tenacious are up to the climb, or able to withstand the buffeting winds and cold, arid conditions that prevail there.

Career and financial security are important to Capricorns, whose ambition will often see them scale the heights of their chosen mountain. There are few things that distress them more than to discover they are halfway up the wrong mountain; however just like the nimble mountain goat, they are capable of a death defying leap to wherever they decide they should be, their sure-footedness on rocky terrain ensuring they can land with grace and carry on.

Unlike the preceding sign of Sagittarius, Capricorn can be quite serious, with the children often seeming like old people in young bodies. Little Flannel Flower can be very useful while they are young, helping them to remember to smell the roses and have some fun. Once they achieve their goals, Capricorns will often kick up their heels and go and do many of the things they missed out on while they were working so hard in their youth. Another good essence for them is Black-Eyed Susan, particularly if their work/home/leisure balance is too heavily weighted towards work, as it is good for anyone prone to over striving and workaholic tendencies.

This sign is ruled by Saturn - the ringed planet. Restriction is something that Capricorns are accustomed to; the same pressure that turns carbon into diamond. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" is a good motto for Capricorns, who are the manifestation of the positive expression of Kapok Bush. They are also very focused on the goal at hand (positive Jacaranda) and will commit to seeing it through to completion (positive Wedding Bush). If they get too bogged down and become stuck, Red Grevillea is very helpful. Bauhinia is very good if they become resistant to change, a definite tendency for this most traditional of signs.

Saturn was at one time King of the Gods, and leadership sits easily with natives of this sign. They feel at ease with and respect authority figures, and are comfortable in stepping up to the responsibility of being the boss. Sometimes they may be prone to being dominant or autocratic, failing to take the views of those around them into consideration. If this is happening, try Gymea Lily.

Pessimism can be somewhat of a theme for Capricorns, particularly if the universe has thrown them quite a few curve balls (which it can if your ruling God is the Lord of Karma). They see it more as (sensibly) planning for the worst; to help them also hope for the best, give Sunshine Wattle. This Essence also helps them to loosen the purse strings if they are overly frugal. Feeling isolated can also be an issue; it's lonely at the top - not that this stoic sign would ever admit it. Tall Yellow Top is really good for this entire picture, also helping them to reach out to others.

Traditional astrology teaches that Capricorn has an affinity with the bones and the knees. In mind body medicine any problems with these would indicate an underlying emotional pattern of rigidity, with Bauhinia, Hibbertia and Tall Mulla Mulla all being essences to help restore emotional and mental flexibility.
