Make the most of the holidays - Holiday gift ideas - Astrology

Make the most of the holidays

Make the mostWe would like to offer a bit of advice on how to make the most of the holidays.

  • Don't allow yourself to be overwhelmed by all the things you have to do, by all the hordes of people in the shops, by all the preparations that are needed. Stay calm, don't panic - keep an emergency essence at hand.
  • If you are particularly sensitive to the energy of other people and places, use an auric protection essence. Moving through busy shops can be exhausting at the best of times, (even more so with the Christmas crowds) as you "pick up" other peoples stress and add it to your own.
  • Don't underestimate the effect of space clearing. Spraying a room with a space clearing essence before a family gathering can make all the different between tension and harmony.
  • Heartfelt communication is the key to establishing loving, open relationships with others, particularly family members. The lack of communication, the inability to express oneself and to hear what others have to say are at the root of many of our problems.

Astrology and Bush Flower Essences

Sagittarius 23rd November-21st December

SagittariusWith Sagittarius we move into the final of the Fire signs. After the intensity of Scorpio, we have some much needed light relief with this sign. Sagittarians can be quite paradoxical. On one hand, they love to kick up their heels and have fun; the life and soul of any party, they are often quick with a joke and can see the humour in most situations. Beneath this seemingly lightweight exterior lies a sharp and inquisitive mind and a strong sense of justice. They have a great love of travel and freedom - interesting philosophies, other cultures, unusual ideas and far away lands intrigue and beckon them. Many writers, lawyers, musicians, teachers, social advocates, comedians and world travellers are Sagittarian.

This sign is ruled by Jupiter, who overthrew his father Saturn to become King of the Gods in ancient Roman mythology. As a child, Jupiter had to be hidden from his father (who was determined to kill him) no easy feat as he was very noisy. So too are Sagittarians, with booming voices and a love a rhythm, which can see them drumming, singing and playing loud music, oblivious to the effect it has on those around them. Sagittarians rarely mean any harm and Kangaroo Paw is a good Essence to help make them more aware of the needs of others (for a quieter life). They can also unintentionally say the wrong thing, and offend others, which Kangaroo Paw is also useful for. This clumsiness can be physical too, tripping over their feet and knocking over precious objects, for which Bush Fuchsia is more appropriate.

The symbol for Sagittarius is The Archer - half man, half horse. This is symbolic of us as a spiritual being in a physical body; trying to remain aware of our spiritual ideals while at the same time overcoming our desire nature. Red Lily, the sacred lotus of Buddhism that grows all through South East Asia and the Top End of Australia, specifically helps us with this.

Buddhism is a philosophy that sits well with this sign, and His Holiness The Dalai Lama's tireless world travel espousing the wisdom of his religion, as well as the plight of Tibet and her people with humour is an excellent example of the best of Sagittarius.

Out of Balance Sagittarian Energy clumsy, tactless, infidelity, mental superiority, judgemental, argumentative, know-it-alls, rebellious, immature, irresponsible, restless, risk taking, exaggeration, extravagant, indiscreet, outspoken.

Balanced Sagittarian Energy abundant, harmless, generous, extroverted, confident, free spirited, adventurous, optimistic, independent, intelligent, imaginative, creative, honest, idealistic, ethical, loyal, bold, playful, wise, fair, broad minded, protective, and well intentioned.

Like its opposite Gemini, Sagittarians are natural communicators. Gemini will talk to everyday people in simple language. Sagittarians tend to talk about more weighty matters like philosophy, religion and justice (social and otherwise). Their love of learning often leads them to higher education; sometimes they go too far and either become the eternal student or develop a "know it all" or "I know better than you" attitude towards those who may not be "qualified". Hibbertia helps with all of these tendencies. Yellow Cowslip Orchid is beneficial if they become judgemental, while Slender Rice Flower helps with any prejudice.

Traditional astrology teaches that Sagittarius resonates energetically with the hips, sacrum, thighs and liver. Boab is used in cranio-sacral therapy for balancing the sacral area, and Dagger Hakea in traditional Chinese medicine for balancing the liver chi and meridian. Sagittarians do like to party, so it is not unusual for their liver to feel the effects of overindulgence in fine food and wine. If they have been burning the candle at both ends, Macrocarpa will also be useful.

Emotional commitment can sometimes be an issue. Sagittarians love their freedom so "till death us do part" can be a challenging concept for them. Wedding Bush helps if they are suffering from the "Don Juan" syndrome, and helps them to settle. The trick is to leave the gate open - if they know they can leave they will often quietly contently remain grazing in the home paddock.
